RHODESIANS NEVER DIE
The Impact of War and Political Change on White Rhodesia c.1970-1980

The book examines how the white Rhodesian minority reacted to the war for independence and the transition to black majority rule in the 1970s. The authors suggest that white Rhodesians were often in denial and resistant to the inevitable political changes. The work is based on archival research and personal interviews to explore the internal divisions within white Rhodesia and the tactics used to try and preserve their "way of life".

The phrase: "Rhodesians never die" is often associated with pro-Rhodesian sentiment and propaganda. It became a slogan used by some to promote the idea of an enduring national identity and a refusal to give up on their cause, even as the country faced political change.  However, the title of Godwin and Hancock's book uses the phrase to critically analyze this ideology. It examines the belief held by many white Rhodesians that their legacy would persist, despite the nation's political transformation into Zimbabwe.
