First edition: 258 pages, frontispiece of H. R. H. Prince of Wales (then Duke of York) presenting the Victoria Cross to Sergeant Farmer, M. I. Company Cameron Highlanders, Pietermaritzburg, Natal, August 15, 1901, 1 plate, 14 folding sketch maps, 1 large coloured folding map, original light green decorated paper-covered boards with the armorial crest on the upper cover, dark blue cloth spine, a good copy.

Hackett: South African War Books, page 19: A special edition of the 79th News being a record of the 1st Battalion in South Africa with contributions by various officers of the regiment. The Cameron Highlanders took part in the northern advance from Bloemfontein. Following the occupation of Pretoria they were employed, at various times, in the northern Orange River Colony and in wide ranging patrols in the Transvaal. The volume contains various appendices including notes on Lovat’s Scouts, mentioned in despatches, an itinerary of the campaign and a nominal roll of all who served in South Africa.
