Duncan Campbell Francis Moodie (24 January 1838 – 11 February 1891), commonly referred to as D. C. F. Moodie, was a Colony of Natal writer, historian and linguist. He was born in South Africa where he spent much of his life - the balance in Australia. He is best remembered in South Africa for his books History of the battles and adventures of the British, the Boers and the Zulus in Southern Africa and John Dunn, Cetywayo, and the three Generals. Both of these titles have been reprinted in recent times. In Australia, where he was dubbed 'Zulu' Moodie, he published a newspaper The Portonian from 1871 to 1879.
Southern Songs is a volume of verse, much of it with South African settings. it has also been reprinted recently but early editions are scarce. I have not seen a reference to a First Edition. A Second Edition was published in Pietermaritzburg ?1883 but I cannot locate a copy of this edition. Currently there is only one copy of the Third Edition for sale online and so it is presumably very scarce. i have furthermore not located any inscribed or signed copies of any other Moodie's books on offer.
