Two volume set.

Later elaborately tooled full leather bindings with raised bands and gilt titles on the spines. Pale yellow end papers. All edges gilt. Volume one has xii prelims, 347 text pages, frontispiece engraving and three Hottentot "Musical Airs". The second volume has viii prelims, 352 text pages and a black and white frontispiece.

The label on the front paste down of volume one is difficult to read: "Myers & Co., 80 New Bond Street, London W.1."

CONDITION DETAILS: There is a pen inscription on the half title page of volume one. Both frontispieces and the Hottentot Musical Airs were printed on a thicker paper which has not aged well and are heavily foxed. There are pencil notes on the front end papers. The glue used on all the paste downs left stains on the margins. The bindings have some edge wear, but are still very attractive, but the heads of the spines are cracked. Internally reasonably clean.
