The 1951/52 Springbok team is one of the finest produced by South Africa. On this tour the team won every match (and all five test matches) with the exception of a two point loss to London Counties near the start of the tour. After the Springboks' 4-0 drubbing of the 1949 All Blacks in the Union, most rugby enthusiasts were intrigued to see how these Boks would perform away from home. The first test was against Scotland on 24 November. The Springboks won 44-0, the widest winning margin in a test in the UK at that time.
Clayton attended the reunion dinner of the team at the Carlton hotel in Johannesburg, held on 15 November 1991. He persuaded surviving members of the team to write accounts of the tour and their teammates, which he then produced in this scarce booklet.
