This work is the first comprehensive, illustrated account devoted to the family Amaryllidaceae in Southern Africa. It includes all genera traditionally regarded as members of the family in Southern Africa and currently placed within the subfamily Amaryllidoideae by the Angiosperm Group (APG III) (Chase et al. 2009.)
Barbara Jeppe, began work on the paintings in July 1971 and for the next 28 years she collected and painted over 200 species of Amaryllidaceae.
