A 200-year old book dealing primarily with sporting occurences at the time including horse racing, hunting, pigeon and woodcock shooting, ring-sport like boxing and wrestling, pigeon shooting, cricket, foot-race etc. Numerous articles, letters from readers and results (at the back) give the reader a fascinating insight into sport in England in the early 1800s.
Editions of Annals of Sporting from 1 July, 1825 to 1 November, 1825. Pages 1 to 400 (paginated) + 17 to 88 make up this volume. Hard cover, quarter leather with title in gilt on spine.
Three leaves at the beginning of the book are torn with a bit of loss, otherwise well preserved. Illustrated with numerous steel engravings and plates. Page edges uncut. A scarce title on the early days of modern sport.
