Eight separate and very scarce early issues of the Cape Monthly Magazine, which was the most popular and famous of the Cape journals from the 1800s.

They are as follows:

Vol.I: No.5 (May, 1857).

Articles include: Loss of the "Doddington" on Bird Island, Sketches of St. Helena, Researches by W. I. Bleek, Irrigation by The Hon. F. W. Reitz.

Some age-associated wear. Lacks the rear wrap.

Vol.III: Three consecutive numbers, being nos. 13, 14 & 15 (Jan. to March, 1858)

Articles include: Captain Cook's Visits to the Cape, Kafirs (sic) and Kafirland (sic) - a Settler's Story, South African Philology by W. H. I. Bleek, The Hottentot Language, Livingstone's Travels and Researches.

Some age-associated wear. Front wrap on No. 15 has loss at bottom corner.

Vol.VI: Two consecutive numbers, being nos. 33 & 34 (Sept. to Oct. 1859)

Articles include: A Week's Canter Northwards in Natal, the Discovery of Lake Shirwa, Damaraland - from Walwich Bay to Otjimbingue, the Cape Horse and his Ancestry, some period adverts printed on green paper at rear.

Some age-associated wear.

Vol.II (New Series): No.12 (June, 1871) 

Articles include: The Descent of Man (Darwin), Life at the Cape by a Lady, On the Diamondiferous Regions of South Africa.

Top corner of front wrap missing.

Vol.VII (New Series): No.37 (July, 1873)
