Important exploration expedition in the hitherto unknown highland
regions of Mt. Kenya. In 1892 Gregory was seconded as naturalist
to a large expedition to British East Africa; when this collapsed he
set out on his own with a party of forty Africans. In five months he
completed scientific observations in fields ranging from structural
geology and physical geography to anthropology, and from mountaineering
and glacial geology to the malarial parasites. His major success was the
study in this region of the volcanic rocks and structural features of what
he termed the 'Great Rift Valley' . [ABE reference].
"This is primarily a work of exploration, mainly in the unknown
highlands of the Mt. Kenia region. The author does describe a
hunt for rhinoceros on the Kapte Plain and hunting lion in the
Kikuyu country." [Czech, pg 67. An Annotated Bibliography of African
Big Game Hunting Books, 1785 to 1950].
