First edition with 318 pages, brown cloth boards, titled gilt on the spine, a very good copy in the dust jacket.

The first Indians came to South Africa as a result of a tripartite pact in which the Governments of Natal, India and Great Britain were involved. They came to serve the interests of the White Sugar Planters in Natal.

Bridglal Pachai (30 November 1927 – 27 November 2019) was a South African-born Canadian educator, historian and author. Born in Umbulwana, Natal, he went to school in nearby Ladysmith, and later graduated with a doctorate in 1963.
