"The Mammals of South West Africa. A Biological Account of the Forms occurring in that Region. By Captain G. C. Shortridge, M.B.E., C.M.Z.S., Director, Kaffrarian Museum, King William's Town, South Africa. With a Foreword by Field-Marshall Viscount Allenby, G.C.B., G.C.M.B."

Publisher's green cloth bindings with gilt embossed vignettes on front panel and gilt titles on spine. Publisher's original beige dust covers.

Vol.I: xxv + 437pp. Numerous plates and distribution maps (all present).

Vol.II: ix + page 439-779 (continuous pagination from Vol.I). Numerous plates and distribution maps (all present).

Bindings tight and square. Corners sharp. Contents clean. A superior set in fine condition! The scarce original dust jackets are in very good condition although they have been reinforced with paper on the inside top and bottom edges along the folds.

I have uploaded an example of an entry in the image box. The description is for the Vervet Monkey which, rather enigmatically, is called a blue ape in Afrikaans. Scientific classifications for the species are indicated, a list of native names are given, distributions and habits are described.

  • Jacket Condition: Very Good
  • Binding Condition: Fine
