This is a two-volume set detailing the history of the Moravian Church in South Africa.
The first volume titled "The Pear Tree Blossoms: The History of the Moravian Church in South Africa 1737-1869" by Bernhard Krüger was written as a dissertation approved for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Rhodes University. It includes 15 reproductions of historical originals.
The second volume, titled "The Pear Tree Bears Fruit" is written by both Bernhard Krüger and P.W. Schaberg and continues the history from 1869 to 1960, with an epilogue extending to 1980.
There is a previous owner's name written on the first page of both books.
