First Edition: 601 pages, frontispiece, 23 colour and 28 black & white plates, many maps - four folding, maps as endpapers, many battle plans in the text, green cloth frayed at the spine and at the corners, page edges foxed, a good copy.
The 24th Foot were engaged in several campaigns in South Africa. First at the British occupation under General Baird at the Battle of Blouberg 1802, then during the frontier and Zulu Wars of 1877-1879 including, of course, Isandhlwana and Rourke's Drift, and finally during the Anglo-Boer War.
