"The Story of the Settlement. Grahamstown as it was, and Grahamstown as it is. Compiled from the most authentic authorities, and issued as a memento of the completion of the Settlers' Memorial Tower, at Grahamstown, on the 24th day of May, 1881."

This is a copy of the scarce first edition which was published as a 102pp pamphlet in 1882. Illustrated with a fold-out frontispiece engraving of the Town Hall and Jubilee Memorial Tower (opened on the 24th May 1882).

'The Star newspaper appeared for the first time in Johannesburg on October 17, 1887, as The Eastern Star.
