An important monograph covering the study of the history, geography, geology, territory, population (ethnology, ethnography, etc.), nature and natural resources, economy, land borders, mines, settlements, roads and railways, etc. Profusely illustrated with folding photographic reproductions of historical maps of Africa, South Africa and the Niassa region from the 15th century to the date of publication; also with numerous photographic reproductions of old engravings and contemporary photogravures. From the meticulous editions of the "The Overseas Scientific Research Board" (JICU), resulted from the Board of Geographical Missions and Colonial Research.

Nuno Beja Valdez Thomas dos Santos (1935-2011), was an Infantry Colonel, with service commissions in Angola and Guinea-Bissau, and former director of the Army library. Nuno Valdez dos Santos left us numerous works in the field of military historical research, among which are "The Unknown Niassa", "The Seven Hundred Years of Naval Studies in Portugal" and several other works dedicated to naval studies and Historical Artillery, where he was one of the best researchers of his time, member of the Portuguese Academy of History, the Navy Academy and the Military History Commission.

"O Desconhecido Niassa"; Paperback; Text in Portuguese; Collation complete - Title page, 240 pages, with numerous plates and maps (many folding, some coloured); Ex-university library copy, a two withdrawn stamps to the front free endpaper and interior of the front board, ex-libary stamp to the page edges of text block. Paperback binding partly sunned and little discolored, with some bumping, but whole and tight. The volume seems to be never opened, even it is an ex-library copy. Text block/pages are perfectly bright and clear, no any signes of use, no foxing, markings or annotations. Well preserved copy.
