George Alexander Hoskins was born in 1802.
His visit to Egypt and Nubia occurred in 1832-33.
Like many of his co-travellers, he was not an Egyptologist but an
educated young man with financial resources. Like many other travellers
at the time, he employed an artist, Luchese Bandoni. He made a valuable
contribution by publishing his travels which many did not. He followed the
Greek and Roman authors and dated many of the monuments - such as the
pyramid cemeteries - earlier than those in Egypt. (Morkot)
