Clarke's Bookshop was founded by Anthony Clarke in 1958. After his death in 1981, the bookshop was inherited by his business partner Paul Mills who was joined by Henrietta Dax who had worked with them since mid-1981. They separated the business in 1998. Paul continued as Clarke's Africana & Rare Books and Andre Sales now runs Clarke's Bookshop.
Clarke's Bookshop now specialises in African books with a particular focus on South Africa. They sell mainly new books published in South Africa, and also have a large second hand collection, including Africana and other collectable books.
