The author was the warden of the Transvaal Government Game Reserves. His Camp was at Sabi-Bridge where he appointed two rangers, one being Harry Wolhuter, and trained locals as rangers.
He was also local Magistrate, customs collector, border guard and watcher of the railway line.

In 1926, the National Parks Bill passed in Parliament, with input from Stevenson-Hamilton, establishing the Kruger National Park as the realization of the dreams of Paul Kruger. Stevenson-Hamilton secured a large block in the remote N.E. corner of Transvaal, and by doing so created the space that is known today as Kruger National Park.

He extended the reserve from the original 3,100 square kilometers to 36,000 square kilometers. Within the protected area, wildlife roams from the Crocodile to the Limpopo Rivers.
