Publisher's variant binding in green cloth.
xvi + 242pp. Profusely illustrated with photographs (all plates present), plans, tables, statistics, etc. and two fold-out maps.
'The author gives historical, scientific and technical details on the Kimberley diamond mines and the Mashonaland, Lydenburg, De Kaap and Witwatersrand gold fields.' - SABIB Vol.IV, page 26
'An account of the Diamond Fields, brought up to date, and including a number of statistics. There is also an account of the Witwatersrand and the De Kaap gold fields, the latter having been compiled by Mr P. A. Ogilvie. Several articles on the gold fields were contributed by other writers.' - Mendelssohn Vol.II, page 210
Of note is an article contributed by Randlord Harry Struben titled The Mineral Wealth of the Transvaal.
Contents clean with contemporary bookplate and signature of former owner John Knox Agnew on front paste down. I have not been able to establish whether or not he was a relative of John Alexander Agnew (1872-1929), the New Zealand mining engineer who was chairman of Consolidated Gold Fields, although I suspect there might be a connection given the subject of this book. Front endpaper missing.
