Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: "Aan Flip en Connie Venter, ter herinnering aan ons vriendskap, met beste wense, Pieter Claasen, 5 Desember 1982."

The Jerusalemgangers or "Jerusalem Trekkers" were a group of ultra religious and eccentric Voortrekkers who, under the leadership of their prophet Johan A. Enslin, believed they would reach the Holy Land if they trekked across Africa. Their trek ended at present day Nylstroom as they believed they had reached the source of the Nile. The town's name literally means Nile stream.
