The author's original thesis for his doctorate in History which was published six years later in 1987 by RAVAN Press as "FIGHTING THEIR OWN WAR. South African Blacks and the First World War".

A product of the University bookbinders. Modest original black hardcover binding with gilt titles on front panel and spine. Only four or six copies would have been produced - one or two for the author, one for the University Library, and two for the Committee.

The author wrote the controversial book Die Hendsoppers en Joiners (The Hands-uppers and Joiners) published in 1979, which was published in English in 2006 as The Dynamics of Treason (see previous lot).
