One of 150 copies so bound out of a total printing of 1000. Not numbered. James Stewart was a Civil Engineer (CE) and is not to be confused with Dr. James Stewart of Lovedale. He did however arrive in Malawi at the suggestion of the latter, the two men being cousins. The Blantyre Mission that he built was the precursor of the leading city of Malawi today. This text is the content of his diary and explores the following themes: The building of Blantyre Station; The Question of Civil Jurisdiction; Journeys of exploration. His significance in the history of Malawi is covered in the Introduction.
