Typed letter signed by General Jan Smuts dated 24th August 1914, written in his capacity as Minister of Finance in Louis Botha's government and on the official letterhead of the Treasury in Pretoria. The letter, to one R.C. Hawkin in London, concerns the issue of investment in South Africa during the First World War. Circa 50 words and clearly signed by Smuts in ink. On a single page measuring 250 x 200 mm. in very good condition with 3 folds for posting.
