First Issue, six parts (all that were published) with the original brown paper wrappers (front and back) bound in, 140 + 2 pages index, illustrated throughout with full page photographs and illustrations by war artists (Melton Prior, Sidney Paget, J. Finnemore and others) with detailed captions beneath, red buckram cloth, fine.
It is very unusual to find this work in the original paper covers in such fine condition. A South African Bibliography lists only one copy in volume 5, the Supplement.
The design on the front cover is attributed to the artist Alan Wright.
Greenwall (Ryno) Artists and Illustrators of the Anglo Boer War, Fernwood Press, 1992, pages 62 and 236, 'Alan Wright, 1998-1925, Painter, illustrator and poet. Wright worked for The Strand Magazine, Girls' Own Paper and Pall Mall Magazine. Wright's contribution during the Boer War was the cover illustration for six issues of George Newnes's Khaki In South Africa.'
