No. 241 of 400 copies of the Subscribers' edition of this classic title, inscribed to Angus O. McLaren and signed and dated by Wolhuter under his frontispiece portrait. A very good plus clean copy without foxing with minimal wear to the boards, in the original 1/2 leather and red buckram binding. What makes this copy unique are two laid in enclosures:

1. A 2pp. signed autograph letter dated 16 Dec. 1948, from Wolhuter, thanking the percipient (name undecipherable) for sending him the fine plaque  which he had just received. Also talking about 'my book', the sales of which are increasing and about which 'most people say that they can't put it down until the last page!!'. Circa 150 words. In nice condition.

2, A small oblong card measuring 12x6.5cms. bearing a charming signed and inscribed original watercolour of an antelope (possibly a bushbuck) by C.T. Astley-Maberly, the illustrator of this book and well known illustrator of many other natural history titles.

** In view of the unique nature of this item, sale is being restricted to buyer's in South Africa.
