Namib Narrow-Gauge

154 pages, illustrations, plans, maps. Cloth red covers, unclipped dust jacket. A name in ink on the fep. A rare copy of the first edition, probably printed 1965.

The history of the Otavi, Walvis Bay, Damaraland Guano, the State Northern railway and other constructions 1899-1960.

K.D.E.V. brass Locomotive Emblem.

A solid brass plate in very good condition. With a weight of 2 kilograms. A rare find to accompany this book on the DSWA Railways.

A copy of this plate was sold at GW Railwayana Auctions, July 2015, for £980. Their description of the plate identity here below.

KDEV brass Locomotive Emblem featuring the Imperial Eagle of the German Empire 1889 - 1918. Measuring 9.75 inches in diameter, this very scarce plate is believed to have originated from what was German South West Africa (now Namibia) The initials stand for Kaiserlich Deutsche Elsenbahn Verwaltung which translates to Imperial German Railway Administration. Unlike the more common KPEV plate, this was used on German Colonial Railways and bears a very different 'spread eagle'. The first locos would have been used on the 1895 built Swakopmund to Windhoek line that was completed in 1902.  https://www.gwra.co.uk/auctions/kdev-brass-locomotive-emblem-featuring-imperial-ea-2015jul-0508.html
