An original ink sketch by book illustrator Chris Ebersohn.
The illustration depicts six Gemsboks in a Namib desert landscape and appeared on page 64 of the book 'n Bietjie Luisterkuier by Afrikaans author Dolf van Niekerk.
The illustration was placed at the head of the chapter entitled "Namibgedagtes".
The author has written the first lines of the chapter at the bottom of the illustration in pen:
"Toe die kelkiewyn opvlieg en sy lyfie in 'n westelike rigting gooi, gryp my gedagtes aan sy borsvere vas. Want wes beteken Namib, net soos die soekroep van die kelkiewyn by my altyd Namibname in die gedagte sal bring. - Dolf van Niekerk, 6 Augustus, 1987."
The leaf measures 39 x 31 cm and a fine first edition copy of the book is included in this lot.
Chris Ebersohn has illustrated several books primarily focusing on humorous works and children's literature.
Dolf van Niekerk (1929-1922) was an Afrikaans author, poet and playwright. He was one of the last surviving members of the Sestigers group - a dissident literary movement of Afrikaans-language poets and writers in South Africa under Apartheid.
