Register

Although printed in the Netherlands, this was the first edition of the work from a South African publisher, Juta, the first, in 1930, being from Oxford University Press. There are extensive notes to the new edition, particularly on tunny.

xxviii + 303 pp including index + 1 folding map + 1 other map as a plate + 1 figure in the text + halftone monochrome frontispiece + 50 other plates. The binding is starting to crack between section 1 and two pages of plates not listed in the contents.

Despite having been in the Johannesburg Public Library, the book is in very good condition overall, with nothing missing and no foxing. A library card-holder and stickers mar the front free endpaper and half-title, but the verso of the back free endpaper is not marred by a second card-holder.

Original green cloth boards, gilt to spine and back cover; both covers have tape marks from a former library plastic cover.
