From the foreword: 'Sir Percy Fitzpatrick died on 24 January 1931. About a year before he died, in view of his failing health, he wanted to see his recollections which he had been writing out of his rich and varied experiences, published. Most of these recollections were dictated by Sir Percy to his secretary.'
