Original full-calf binding with five raised bands on spine. Front panel detached.

[viii] + 271pp. Contents clean with former owner's name on title page, "P. Bridgeman's book, 1718".

A first-hand account of the Jacobite Rebellion, wherein James Edward Stuart sought to regain the thrones of England, Ireland, and Scotland for the exiled Stuarts. In this work the author Robert Patten relates his experiences as a Jacobite chaplain during the uprising. The rebellion ultimately failed and Patten was arrested and made a prisoner in London, where he turned King's evidence. Some rebels were not as lucky and many were sentenced to death. The sentence at the period for high treason being that of hanging, drawing and quartering.
