Sowerby details his extensive travels in China for the Smithsonian Institute, with hunts after wapiti in Manchuria, and collecting bear and goral in the Kirin District of Northern China. There is also considerable description of the wildlife, terrain and peoples of the region. Well illustrated with colored frontispiece and two colored plates tipped onto heavy paper, numerous photo plates, text illustrations, folding chart of skulls, and a large folding map. Original pictorial blue-green cloth lightly scuffed, corners bent. This is a stand alone volume of travel, hunting, and exploration interest, the other 4 volumes (usually found bound in two) detail flora, invertebrates, birds, and mammals.
