Second Edition: cxliv + 219 pages, frontispiece engraving – portrait of Thomas Pringle by W. Finden, - title page vignette, 1 plate reattached with tape with resulting stain in the gutter and oxidised, half calf with matching marbled paper boards and end papers, book-plate of Vergenoeg on front paste-down end paper, marbled edges, decorative gilt on the spine, light foxing.

Page 121 is misprinted and should be 112.

There is a note printed before the contents which reads: This work is not published in the usual way, but entirely for the benefit of Mr. Pringle's widow. January 6, 1838.

Mendelssohn (Sidney) South African Bibliography, Volume 2 page 88:The best edition of Pringle's poetical works, with a memoir extending to 149 pages. In an " advertisement " it is stated that the work " is not published in the usual way, but entirely for the benefit of Mr. Pringle's widow," who was left in very poor circumstances. The volume contains a steel portrait engraving of the author by W. Finden, a vignette, and an illustration entitled " The Bechuana Boy," engraved after Landseer.
