This is the Third Edition, being a verbatim reprint of the Second. The Second was issued in order to satisfy a very gratifying demand. The First was published 1898.

A comprehensive mining study on the Witwatersrand Goldfields, first published in 1898 and expanded here to include the chapter on Tarkwa. Without the large multiple folding "Map of the Central Rand". 3 multiple folding tables (including the large folding table "Analysis of Working Expanditure of the Crown Reef" - 98 x 25 cm; and folding table "The Witwatersrand Goldfields - Output for 1897"), 11 illustrated plates (2 folding) and 205 in-text illustrations.

This book is offered here as a good working copy. It short the large map of the Central Rand. Figure 34 is ninety persent missing (see photo). Pink ink stains on one folding chart. And on page 103 an inserted golden sweet leaf has become attached to the page. Some restoration has been done to the front and rear hard boards. Gilted title to the spine.
