The albums are signed on the front endpapers H. Percival, South Africa but the paintings are not signed but the place and dates between 1938 & 1939 are noted at the bottom left hand corners in ink or pencil. Most of the plants are identified and the locations noted: Cape Town, Cape Flats, Knysna, Johannesburg, Durban, etc. Also Victoria Falls and Zimbabwe.
There is no further information about the artist who was evidently a competent amateur botanical artist. The flower structures are carefully observed and the colours are naturalistic and restrained.
The Solid Block Sketch Books, made by Winsor & Newton Limited, London, each containing 24 leaves of "Whatman" paper and are bound in oatmeal coloured cloth each with an elastic tie.
