New Edition: I. xxxii, 383. II. 403 pages, 20 engraved plates - some folding, half-title pages, quarter brown leather with red title labels on the spines -the leather is frayed at the top and bottom of the spines, marbled paper sides worn at the corners, bottom corners of pages 226 to 261 in volume I stained affecting one of the fold plates, otherwise the contents are bright, sprinkled edges, a very good copy.

An important edition because it contains Le Vaillant’s final revisions and additions and volume II contains the suppressed plate of Hottentote a Tablier (or Apron - The specific anatomical feature being described is the elongated labia minora.) Publishers often omitted the plate entirely, or censors would physically scratch out or cover the specific anatomical feature on the plate with ink, particularly in copies intended for less scholarly audiences or libraries.
