From synopsis on rear cover of book: “When Gavin Barnett was four years of age, his missionary father lost his life in the crocodile infested Zambezi River at Chavuma in the N.W. Province of Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). This, Gavin's third published book, is an autobiography written with forthright frankness, fetching irreverence, revealing candour and is tempered by his wry humour. His objective sense of cognitive dissonance turns its searchlight on political antics, dogma, spurious corporate governance and the Colonial era as it limped its way into vaunted independence. While recording some singular successes, he records his own failures with unusual transparency. Provocative, gripping and descriptive accounts of the hazards and adventures of tropical, wild Africa, the dynamic role of the great Zambezi River and travel in primitive style, enrich these pages. Even the usual genealogical data is tinged with adventure from the Australian 19th century goldrush. His wide-ranging business life spans corporate careers in manufacturing, retailing and entrepreneurship. Avid involvement as a Chartered Governance Professional led to his election as international President of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and admission as a Freeman of the City of London.”
