The preparation of this dictionary was carried out under the auspices of the Bantu Studies Department of the University of the Witwatersrand and the Native Education Department, natal, and towards this end both the Council of the University and the Provicial Education Department of Natal gave generous financial assistance over a period of seven years, and have, by further grants, made possible the publication.

The contents of this volume are soundly bound but with scattered foxing throughout the text - heavier in some places, absent in others. The page edges are also spotted.

The royal blue boards are in very good condition, with the edges being lightly abraded. The grey dust-jacket has a heavily sunned spine, a half inch patch of loss at the foot, is lightly foxed and lightly chipped at the extremities. It is now protected by a thick plastic sleeve.
