The pictures appear to be from the guerrilla war period and are possibly of the Imperial Light Horse operating in the Northern Cape or the southern part of the Orange River Colony. One photograph is of the Fortuna Colliery. Another is of recruiting poster for the ILH. The final large photograph is of a group of approximately forty mounted troops – please see illustrations.

The photographs are mounted four to a page on thick card leaves with linen hinges in an album bound with leather and pebble grained-cloth – the spine is missing and the front cover detached.
The leaves are foxed but the photographs are generally in good condition.
