”This Book was the Property of the celebrated abbe Desforges who was employed at the risk of his life during the reign of terror in France to give aid to unfortunate Roman Catholics”
Abbé Pierre Desforges (1723-1791) was a canon of the collegiate of the Church of Saint Cross of Étampes.
He became known for being stuck in the Bastille in 1758 after publishing a book supporting the marriage of priests and later attempted to fly on a machine in 1772. The story of his first flight attempt is recounted in the book correspondence Littéraire, Philosophique et critique, written by Friedrich Melchior Grimm.
