This valuable addition to Anglo-Boer War documentation covers 963 days at the Springfontein rail junction and records the dates and details of some one thousand deaths during this period in the concentration camps and elsewhere.
The author, also a sheep farmer and guesthouse operator, assembled a comprehensive collection of local Anglo-Boer War items and researched his book over a period of more than a decade. Its 440 quarto pages feature day-by-day entries and a number of photographs.
The reason for the decision of the author - a close neighbour of Fontein in Philippolis - to publish privately is not known, but the design and production are well above the average for this type of book. This copy is new and is inscribed, signed and dated 22 August 2010.
