This is the story of the 19th century roads and mountain passes built in the Western and Eastern Cape by Thomas Bain and his father, Andrew Geddes Bain.
The jacket is rubbed and chipped at the edges and there are several unclosed tears totalling some 5 cm. The brown paper-board covers, gilt to front and spine, are lightly rubbed at the foot of the spine and at the lower front corner. The endpaper maps plus 108 pp of text, profusely illustrated in colour, and index are all fine and unmarked.
