Publisher's maroon cloth-boards with blind rules to the upper panel and gilt lettering to the spine, plain endpapers, frontispiece and xvi/581 pp of text, abbreviations, glossary and index

  • All the inserts called for - 5 maps, 6 plans and 25 illustrations - are present

The faces of the boards are lightly rubbed, the front outer hinge is rubbed along about half its length, and the spine-ends lightly crushed; the spine lettering remaining bright

The frontispiece portrait - the Governor of Natal 1901-1907, Colonel Sir Henry McCallum - the title-page and the first few leaves are lightly sunned, but the remaining text pages and inserts are unmarked and undiscoloured
