Although a total of 4000 English and Afrikaans copies of this book were originally produced, complete copies, especially in the condition of this example, are seldom seen - perhaps because the otherwise valuable introduction (which describes the original work and the artist's apparently ludicrously low invoice of 1280 pounds for all 32 works) ends with guidance on how each illustration can be removed from the spiral binding for framing [!].

A (well-worn) copy of the first issue of the English edition of S A Panorama (1956) is included because its cover photograph features this artist, with the inside caption reading: "Under a cloudless sky, the South African artist J H Pierneef brings the panoramic glory of the Golden Gate, at Clarens in the Orange Free State, to his canvas."
