Author travelled to Cape Town via the Union Steamship Company's 'The Scot'. He journeyed through Matjiesfontein, Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Grahamstown, East London, King William's Town, Pietermaritzburg & finally Durban from whence he returned by 'The Tartar'. He makes observations on the colony and the colonists, the railways, hotels, etc. An interesting, if opinionated, travelogue of the period.
