A good copy of this early travelogue of South Africa's main hubs, with forays into territories such as Bechuanaland (with notes on early gold discovery), as well as other gold discoveries in Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, and the diamond rush in Kimberley.

Condition: the condition of the book is good, with the only major fault being the cutting out of half of the last page (p.173, appendix). The title page is foxed, with scattered foxing throughout, occasional finger smudges, and a few tape repairs and tears to some pages. The binding is still firm, and a superbly detailed map housed at the rear (foxed, and with some tape repair) rounds off this very interesting book. Previous owner pen and pencil notations cover most of the front end-paper, showing some of the provenance and previous owner details.
