Leyland arrived in Algoa Bay in 1848. He was a naturalist who travelled as far as Lake Ngami together with the Missionary, Edwards, visiting Livingstone en route. There is an additional chapter on collecting and preserving animals, birds etc., giving details on how to skin them and recipes on preserving them. Black-and-white engravings of indigenous people and animals. Pages: i-xii[xiv]; 1-289. Africana Collectanea Series Vol XL. No. 851 of 1000 numbered copies. Facsimile reprint of the 1866 Routledge, London, edition. Dust cover slightly scuffed on edges and front and back. Condition Good. Red embossed boards with gilt design on cover and title on spine. Book condition Very Good.
