Leyland arrived in Algoa Bay in 1848. He was a naturalist who travelled as far as Lake Ngami together with the Missionary, Edwards, visiting Livingstone en route. There is an additional chapter on collecting and preserving animals, birds etc., giving details on how to skin them and recipes on preserving them.
