[Africa with its special countries animals and wonderful things] is a fascinating c. 1555, hand-coloured map of most of Africa set in a page of text.
The map is from Münster's Cosmographia;the most popular book of the 16th century. The book was published by Heinrich Petrie, son in law of Sebastian Münster.At the bottom of the map, Petrie notes, in Latin, that the map excludes the 'land called the Cape of Good Hope'.
In fine condition; acceptable age toning; later colour.
