The volume is divided in to three books characterised by much violent objugation of the British. The headings of the sections are as follows:

Book 1: Boer or Briton? or the family, and the adventures of an Anglophile Afrikander.

Book 2: A Kalahari Drama. Moral: No binding alliance should be made between an Afrikander and any one of English descent.

Book 3: Sketches of South African Burgher life, founded on truth.

The work affords a remarkable example of the intense racial hatred fostered by some of the more biassed Boers, the author remarking (page 195) that "an Anglicised Afrikander is in some respects worse than a K@ffir, with al his faults and defects, which are legion" (Mendelssohn's volume 2 page 549)
