Albert Durer Revived [c.1685] unrecorded issue?

“By Hammer and Hand all Arts do stand” - an apparently unrecorded issue.

[Thomas JENNER]. Albert Durer Revived: Or, a Book of Drawing, Limning, Washing, or Colouring of Maps and Prints: and the art of painting, with the names and mixtures of colours used by the picture-drawers. With directions how to lay and paint pictures upon glass. Or, The young-man's time well spent. In which he hath the ground-work to make him fit for doing any thing by hand, when he is able to draw well. By the use of this work, you may draw all parts of a man. And directions for birds, beasts, landskips [sic.], ships, and the like. Moreover, grounds to lay silver or gold upon, and how silver and gold shall be laid or limned upon size, and the way to temper gold and silver, and other metals, and divers kinds of colours, to write or to limned withal, upon vellum, parchment, or paper, and how to lay them upon the work which you intend to make, and how to varnish it when you have done. How also to diaper and shadow things, and to heighten them, to stand off; to deepen them, and make them glister. In this book you have the necessary instruments for drawing, and the use of them, and how to make artificial pastiles to draw withal. And also directions how to draw with Indian-ink: wherein you have also Mr. Hollar's receipt for etching, with instructions how to use it. Very useful for all handicrafts, and ingenious gentlemen and youths. 

London: printed for John Garrett, [undated but circa 1685]. Folio (12 x 8in; 304 x 203mm). [1], 20 (of 21) leaves. Half-title with engraved portrait of Dürer on verso, 19 full-page engravings on rectos with text on numbered versos, the illustration on B1 recto a correction pasted over another image (a duplicate of the final image in the book).  (Lacking final leaf of text, text browned and lightly soiled, some tears and chipping to margins). Stitched as issued.

A rare early edition of a drawing manual which was first published by Thomas Jenner (1621-1672) in 1652 under the title 'A Book of Drawing', with a further edition appearing in 1666. On his death he was succeeded by the printseller John Garrett (1669-1718), who published various other editions. At Garrett's shop "you may have choice of all sorts of large or small maps; coloured, or uncoloured, variety of Dutch and French prints, and prints done in Metzo-Tincto, very good Indian-ink to draw withal, and all sorts of the best copy-books, and Cocker's tutor to writing and arithmetick... and several sorts of coloured sashes to set before windows." All editions are rare and seldom appear in commerce. This edition, with the incorrect image, appears to be unrecorded, but the closest seems to be ESTC 172136 (just a single complete copy of this edition is located at Harvard).The 19 plates are intended as patterns to be used as models for drawing lessons, and the text includes much information on what to draw with, how to draw, what to draw, where to get the best materials, which colors to use where, how to color prints, how to prepare prints for mounting on glass, and others.
