[Unknown Photographers]. [American Gem Tintype Album.] [US: no date but probably 1860s-1870s].
Square 16mo (3 3/8 x 3 ¼ in; 86 x 83mm) ‘Album’ title page printed in colors, 11 laminated paper and card leaves, with oval spaces for 88 images, this album contains 48 images, most ‘gem’ sized (circa 1 x ¾ in; 25 x 19mm), some with touches of hand-coloring. (General toning to mounts, some with small rips). Red embossed morocco, elaborately tooled in gilt (clasps lacking, light scuffing to extremities). An attractive album – see images. The format is charming and seems to have been limited to the display of tintypes, often acting as a class yearbook: this does not appear to have been the case here.
